As a promise to myself to incorporate or practice new techniques each year, last summer I decided to spend more time on practicing Ultra light fishing at sea.
Shallow sea, midsummer, a bit devastated and not very rich life under the sea where I spent summer vacation makes fishing a bit challenging, especially when you spend it with family and cannot spend a lot of time fishing.
Stubborn chasing big, quality fish close to the shore at this time of year often results in failure and can soon become disappointing.
Tip: Best period is first daylight and watch for seagulls, they will show you top spots.

Solution: Ultra light fishing gear, small, 5 to 8gram casting jigs, soft plastic worms and 2″-3″shads saved my summer this year and turned something that smelled like failure to a success. Using these techniques you can almost always find a fish or two, even in a worst fishing conditions and often having hours of exciting fishing on this sensitive gear. Not to mention it can keep your BBQ smoking if you are after fresh delicious seafood.
Targeted fish using ultra light jig and soft bait technique in Croatia are pelagic fish species and Gilt-head Sea Bream. Of course, always be ready to be surprised because when you find big school of fish there are bigger predators lurking.
Metal lures to recommend:
Its hard to go wrong with High Quality Japanese Metal lures from Major Craft
Antoher great option which comes in sizes from 3g – 10 g (0.10 – 0.35oz) – recommend Color C
And a really finesse and most interesting artificial bait for Ultra Light Fishing : Berkley or Isome Sandworm.
Mount those on a 3 – 10g jig head, if needed tie the assist hook and mount it on the worms tail. This way smaller fish wont be able to eat your worm or cut it in half and you ll have better percentage of setting the hook. I recommend Bloody/Red color
